Helping students bring ideas to life: Douglas Klein celebrated as 2025 ‘Great Teacher’

In March, the University of Kentucky Alumni Association honored six recipients of this year’s Great Teacher Awards. Launched in 1961, they are the longest-running UK award recognizing accomplished and passionate educators. In order to receive the honor, teachers must first be nominated by a student. The UK Alumni Association Great Teacher Award Committee, in cooperation with the student organization Omicron Delta Kappa, then makes the final selection. Recipients receive a commemorative award and stipend.

5 engineering alumni inducted into 2025 UK Hall of Distinguished Alumni

On Sept. 12, the University of Kentucky will induct 20 alumni into the 2025 Hall of Distinguished Alumni, including five Pigman College of Engineering alumni. The alumni will be honored for their meaningful contributions to the Commonwealth, nation and the world. 

TEK announces 2025-26 Faculty Fellows cohort

The University of Kentucky’s Office of Transdisciplinary Educational approaches to advance Kentucky (TEK) has announced the TEK Faculty Fellows for the 2025-26 academic year. A critical mission of TEK is the development of new transdisciplinary courses and the reimagining of existing courses to emphasize one or more essential employability skills. Two UK Pigman College of Engineering biomedical engineering graduate students were winners in the Women's Business Center of Kentucky 2025 Emerging Entrepreneur Pitch Competition, hosted in partnership with Women Leading Kentucky. The event, held at the historic Lyric Theatre in Lexington, brought together founders, judges, mentors and sponsors to champion innovation and elevate women entrepreneurs.

Pigman College of Engineering welcomes 7 new faculty members

This month, the University of Kentucky Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering welcomed seven new members to its faculty.  Brooks Lane, assistant professor in the  F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering Lane earned his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in 2019 and most recently served as a postdoctoral fellow at Drexel University.  His research interests are: 

UK Engineering receives record number of NSF CAREER awards

Six Pigman College of Engineering faculty members received National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) awards, the Foundation's  prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty, in the 2025 funding cycle.  This year, the Pigman College of Engineering recorded its highest number of NSF CAREER awardees in the 30-year history of the program. In addition, the college boasted a 75% success rate for CAREER awards in the 2025 funding cycle.
